Canada to bid for 2026 World Cup

ssssss

The Canadian Soccer Association released its 2014-18 strategic plan this week in a bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Back in March 2011 Canada won the right to host the women’s World Cup in 2015. Some may argue that this could give them a trial run for their 2026 bid. By next year, Canada will have hosted every FIFA event except for the world futsal, beach and club championships and Confederations Cup.

CONCACAF, which covers North and Central America and the Caribbean, has not hosted the men’s World Cup since the U.S. in 1994.

Alberta has 2 proposed stadium locations as part of the bid for the 2026 World Cup in Edmonton and Calgary. It may not come as a surprise to many as these are the two biggest cities in the province. Whilst Edmonton would have a predicted renovation of the Commonwealth Stadium, Calgary are proposing a new 48,000 capacity stadium to be built. If this gets the go ahead it will not only be a fantastic edition to an already impressive city, but will also create even more jobs in the ever increasing structural steel industry that Alberta is now famed for.
